King George V Silver Jubilee 1935

Most of the girls can be recognised from the band picture above, the only other is the lad with the bear knee sitting at the bottom of the May-pole.(that is me I am told, as my father took these photographs)

The one vivid memory I have of that day, was the procession from the school to this field at the back of the Parish Hall.

Local farmers loaned their horse and drays for this and it went along Walsall Road and down Rosemary Hill to get to the Blake Street entrance to the field. As we came down Rosemary Hill our horse was slipping while trying to hold the cart back. The driver screwed the brake wheel on, which put wooden blocks on the iron rim wheels. By the time the dray got to the cross roads by Parmley's garage and Rowland's and Orme's shops we were leaving two smoke trails that the Red Arrows would  have been proud of. (RSD)
